East Point

When East Point’s assets first started to become known, causing more people to move to the area, residents and city officials alike were determined to preserve and maintain the integrity of the town both for the benefit of existing inhabitants and those flocking to its tree lined streets to open businesses and settle into new homes. In 1999, East Point collaborated with the executive office of the “Weed and Seed” program, which was originally established in 1991 by the U.S. Department of Justice. Operation Weed and Seed is a community-focused approach to crime control and prevention through four components – Law Enforcement, Community Policing, Prevention, Intervention, Treatment and Neighborhood Revitalization that collaborates to enhance the strategy. Local law enforcement agencies and prosecutors collaborate on “weeding” criminals out of the target area. “Seeding” brings prevention, intervention, treatment and neighborhood revitalization services to the citizens and communities through collaboration with social service agencies, federal agencies, and nonprofit agencies. The collaborations include, but are not limited to: the U.S. District Attorney’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, Community Service Department, East Point Housing Authority, Corporate partners and many other agencies in the area.

This venture continues to expand to surrounding towns and neighborhoods as its success becomes more and more apparent. Residents of East Point rest easy knowing they are part of a collective and constant effort to prevent crime and preserve the true nature of the community.

In 2002, East Point joined the National Main Street Program, which promotes commercial investment in historic downtown areas. It is this collective endeavor of East Point’s community that keeps the authenticity of the town’s history in tact, even while its revitalization is encouraged and embraced. People who have lived there for generations welcome the evolution brought about by new residents, and these new residents are pleased to be part of the burgeoning community at such an exciting time. East Point, now considered Atlanta’s best kept secret, is an ideal city for any potential homeowner.
